Qatar tackles diabetes

National Health Authority is planning a specialised centre for research and treatment of diabetes and obesity.

Qatar’s National Health Authority is to set up a specialised centre for diabetes and obesity.

The new facility is expected to be established next year, according to Al Sharq in a report picked up by Qatar daily The Peninsula. It will provide high-quality treatment as well as conducting research into the related conditions, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Cases of Diabetes have soared in the Gulf region. A recent report carried out by the International Diabetes Federation 2007 stated that the UAE ranked the second highest worldwide for diabetes prevalence, followed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.
