Qatar energy official confirms start up for 5th liquefied natural gas production facility.
Qatar liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Qatargas will start up its fifth LNG production facility in late 2009, a Qatar energy official said on Monday."It will be online by the end of the year," Saad al-Kaabi, head of oil and gas ventures at state run Qatar Petroleum (QP), told Reuters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Qatar.
The production facility, known as a train, will have capacity to produce 7.8 million tonnes of LNG per year.
Qatargas train 5 is 65 percent owned by QP, while Exxon Mobil holds 18.3 percent and Total 16.7 percent.
Qatar is the world's largest LNG producer and will double its capacity in 2009 to around 62 million tonnes per year with four new trains due on line.
