Qtel deploys HP services

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has deployed HP's Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) services.

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has deployed HP's Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) services.

The operator has also deployed HP's IT Service Management (ITSM) solution; both were deployed to manage and measure quality of services provided by the IT division, the telco said.

Qtel's IT department has a headcount of 100 employees. The project was started in April last year and has taken almost a year to complete.

Mohamed Siam, Middle East ITSM practice lead at HP, said the company had trained and certified Qtel staff on ITIL, an industry standard for IT management. The operator used the ITIL version 2 for this implementation.

"It was essential for Qtel to manage and measure quality of services provided by the IT division. With the ITSM and ITIL it becomes easier to monitor and also control the growth of the IT staff headcount," said Yousef Al Masri, IT divisional manager at Qtel.
