Qatar telecoms chief reveals new deals and services in 2009 as mobile sector hots up.
Qtel customers are in line for good deals and new services in 2009 as the company gears up for the arrival of Vodafone in Qatar.
Company chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani said Qtel had “several customer-oriented programmes” lined up for next year.
“God willing, we will provide them next year attractive prices on various services besides new services themselves,” he said in comments published by Gulf Times on Monday.
Vodafone Qatar is set to roll out mobile service in the country on March 1 while Vodafone–Qatar Foundation consortium has also won the licence to provide a fixed-line service in the country which is expected to begin towards the end of the year.
Regarding the introduction of competition from Vodafone in 2009, he added: “Our strategy has been well planned and executed after a careful study. We don’t change it every day.
"We got ready for competition in our home turf the moment stage was set open for competition. Our strategy is to find out customer requirements and meet them. We have done that even when we faced no competition in Qatar. We will continue to meet our customer needs.”
Sheikh Abdullah said Qtel welcomed competition. “It is good for customers. It is a must in every country.”
The chairman said the company would continue to invest in development projects that provided both jobs and business opportunities in the local economy.
