Ras Al-Khaimah ruler celebrates 60 years in power

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, crown prince and deputy ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, signed on Monday a message of gratitude sent by citizens of the emirate to Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, on the 60th anniversary of his accession, UAE state news agency WAM reported.Colourful celebrations will be held across the emirate to mark the historic occasion, WAM said.

Mohammed Al-Mahrazi, Director General of Ras Al-Khaimah Customs Department and chairman of the celebrations organising committee, said the door would open as of Tuesday to citizens and residents to pay tribute to the ruler, it added.

Sheikh Saqr is the second longest-serving ruler after King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand who has been on the throne for 62 years.
