Reel Cinemas posts 25% growth at flagship venue

Emaar Retail-managed cinema at The Dubai Mall attracts 2.6m customers during 2013

Reel Cinemas posts 25% growth at flagship venue

The flagship 22-screen cinema in The Dubai Mall attracted over 2.6 million customers in 2013, up 25 percent on last year, its operator said on Sunday.

Emaar Retail, which manages Reel Cinemas, also revealed that 325,000 people paid to see movies at its boutique six-screen cinema at Dubai Marina Mall.

The company said that both cinemas have recorded a total of nine million visitors to date, four years after opening.

Maitha Al Dossari, chief operating officer of Emaar Retail, said: “The film sector is an important contributor to the entertainment industry of the UAE and the robust growth in audience turnout at Reel Cinemas underlines the clear differential we have set in terms of setting industry benchmarks.

“Today, Reel Cinemas enjoys 22 percent market share, a clear testament to the growth we have achieved in a short span of time.

“We will continue to focus on sustaining the trend by bringing the newest cinemas to audiences, innovating on our luxury range of products and services and enhancing our visitor’s experiences.”

Emaar Retail is developing a portfolio of brands in key growth markets and strategically building new alliances, joint ventures, franchises, and licenses for the mall developments of Emaar.

The company also manages Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, the Olympic-size Dubai Ice Rink, the Middle East’s largest and first of its kind indoor theme park – SEGA Republic, KidZania, the children’s award-winning edutainment centre and the SEGA Republic Game Zone in Dubai Marina Mall.
