Retail Congress confirmed for November

UP to 200 professionals from the Middle East’s retail sector are set to attend the Retail Gulf International Congress 2006 at Dubai’s Hyatt Regency hotel on November 6 and 7.

UP to 200 professionals from the Middle East’s retail sector are set to attend the Retail Gulf International Congress 2006 at Dubai’s Hyatt Regency hotel on November 6 and 7. The event, which will focus on product, property and people aspects of retailing, is aimed at a cross section of retail professionals, from CEOs and directors to general managers.

The Retail Congress is also aimed at people who are involved in professions related to retailing, marketing, sales, branding and supply chains. Among the subjects that the conference will focus on are: retail marketing; store operations and management; supply chain management and sourcing; retail marketing and innovation. There will also be a focus on understanding human behaviour and the science of shopping.

Guest speakers at the event will include: Robert Turner, supply chain director at Nestle Middle East FZE; Adil Ghouse, general manager for consumer products at Khimji Ramdas, Oman; Jan Vink, information technology director, Boekhandels Groep Nederlands, Netherlands, and Arvind Nair from Jumbo Electronics LLC.

Bernardine Michael, a marketing assistant at Marcus Evans, the event’s organiser, said that there will be a number of talks and presentations relevant to FMCG companies, particularly on the supply chain management and sourcing section, on the first day of the event. “Important issues that will be raised are retail marketing issues such as achieving customer loyalty and best creating retail brands, retail store operations and management, including discussion of the use of RFID, bar-coding and POS systems,” she said.

The conference is arranged in six separate streams, with three streams each day focusing on specific issues. The first day will focus on retail marketing, store operations, and supply chain management, while the second day will look at retail marketing innovation, retail spacing and design, and inventory management and distribution.
