Fifty percent of products bought by customers during Prime Day in the UAE came from innovators and entrepreneurs – most of which are small and medium-sized businesses, according to Ronaldo Mouchawar, vice president, Amazon MENA.
Amazon’s Prime Day 2019 saw UAE members buy more than 21,000 litres of bottled water, over 8,500kg of powder detergent and more than 15,000m sq of paper towels.
Deal categories enjoyed most by members in the UAE included health, beauty and perfumes.
“Prime Members in the UAE enjoyed deals on thousands of items, and best-selling product categories in the UAE included health, beauty and perfumes, electronics, and grocery,” said Mouchawar.
The best-selling Amazon devices in the UAE were the Kindle Paperwhite and the all-new Kindle.
Over the two days of Prime Day, earlier this week, globally, members bought more than 175 million items throughout the event across 18 countries, spending more than $2 billion.
Amazon said Prime Day sales topped the combined total from the two big shopping days in the year-end holiday season, known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For all the latest retail news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
