Review: The Spa Address Dubai Mall

Find out why this 60-minute treatment is a great pre-weekend option

Review: The Spa Address Dubai Mall

Scrubs, as smooth as they make our skin feel afterwards, they are not our favourite spa treatments. Almost always, they feel too harsh, like sharp bristles scratching our skin so hard they leave pink imprints behind.

So when we stepped into The Spa at the Address Dubai Mall, we were dreading our 60 minutes of severe skin grazing – in other words, the so-called Sweetness Body Polish.

Led into the traditionally-designed spa with dark wooden floors and beige furnishings, we found the staff to be friendly and professional. They offered us a complimentary mint and lemon drink which was refreshing and helped get our mind off the daunting task at hand. For us, it’s always the little details like this one that count.

We filled the usual spa form and entered the dimly-lit treatment room, guided by our therapist Anne, and bravely opted for medium pressure. We braced ourselves as we laid face down on the massage table waiting for that first excruciating scratch.

You can imagine our surprise when instead of a harsh scrape, we discovered a more pleasant encounter: an enjoyable scrub.

We could give full credit to the actual scrub itself, the Sweetness Body Polish by Shiffa made with natural cane, muscovado sugars, almond oil and exotic coconut - but we’re pretty sure it was our therapist Anne who also aced the technique. Starting from the leg up, she applied a bit of pressure to make us feel a slight graze, but not too much as to irritate us. The scrub smelt sweet and felt sweeter, because Anne’s method somehow involved pleasing massage movements simultaneously with the scrub.

Before we knew it, the scrub was over and we stepped into the in-room shower to wash it off. Anne recommended we do so with just water, without soap, to allow the elements time to seep through our skin and give it proper conditioning. We were also told the scrub comprised rosemary and grapefruit oils that help tackle dimpled skin, but that a few sessions would be needed to witness a major change.

Still, we were more than happy with our treatment. As expected, our skin felt smooth and looked radiant and healthy. This was further aided by the Sweetness Body Lotion which Anne applied to finish off the treatment – non-oily and quickly absorbed.

If you have a dislike of scrubs, we recommend you give this treatment a try. It’s also a great way to pamper yourself pre-weekend or special occasion and get over your fear of scrubbing!
