We are obsessed with Italian food. So when we heard that home-grown Italian brand Eataly is a one-stop shop where you can eat and buy high-quality Italian food, we had to try it out. The venue in Dubai Mall is huge yet simply designed, with wooden tables and colourless modern chairs. Eataly’s atmosphere is very casual, lively, but bustling with energy and people.
The food is simple too, but traditional to the core.
Once we were seated by friendly staff, we were served two slices of really, really good in-house baked bread with what we could tell was high-quality olive oil and vinegar.
For appetisers, we had the carpaccio di pomodoro e burrata with sliced tomatoes and basil. This was, hands down, one of the best burrata we had in Dubai. Utterly creamy, it made us want to close our eyes to enjoy every bite.
For the main course, we opted for penne all’arrabbiata with tomato sauce and chili flakes. The pasta was cooked to perfection. Its dressings were minimal and simple and did not overpower the pasta’s taste. This is rare to find as many restaurants deluge their pasta with sauce.
For desert, we headed to the shop’s Nutella corner – a dream come true for any chocolate fanatic. The corner offers every desert you can think of with Nutella. We had a crepe with the chocolate spread, bananas and strawberries. The dough was thin and soft in areas yet crispy in others – just how we like it.
Our verdict for Eataly? We will definitely be going back, a lot, and not just for the restaurant. Eataly sells everything from Italian chocolates to olive dips, and they’re delicious. For all the latest gourmet news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
