Review: Vii Dubai Lounge

A dynamic venue that works for lively dinners or intimate get-togethers

Review: Vii Dubai Lounge

Vii Dubai is best known for its ‘secret garden’ lounge nestled on a rooftop on Sheikh Zayed Road. Decorated with green-filled walls, statement chairs and a large chandelier for a centre piece, the lounge is ever-impressive.

But beyond the greenhouse-inspired décor and buzzing atmosphere is a food menu that is the main reason we keep coming back for more.

We visit Vii on a Thursday night when the venue is busy but not too crowded to a bothersome extent. We are seated by our friendly server Sophie who remains attentive and helpful throughout our dinner.

Sophie recommends the crispy duck spring rolls for starters and they turn out to be delightful – not too oily nor too dry. They are easy to gobble and are fulfilling however, so do make sure you leave space for other dishes.

Next we try the beef tenderloin sliders with double cheese sauce and grilled onion. If there is one cheat meal we would go for after a diet, it would be these sliders - juicy and satisfyingly greasy.

For the mains, we try the suhsi chef’s special with salmon, feta cheese and tempura batter. It is not as heavy as it sounds and the tempura batter makes for a pleasant, crispy touch.

We are impressed with the freshness of the fish and decide to try the volcano maki roll as well. It comprises tuna, salmon and crab, so is a great option if you can’t decide which fish to have. The sushi comes in large portions and is quite heavy, so we do recommend you share it.

At this point, we are feeling almost full, but have enough space for the asparagus and wild mushroom risotto. While we’re not ones for vegetarian meals (we love our meat), but the risotto is so rich in taste we have to name it our favourite dish of the night.

We finish off our evening with a soft, bittersweet hazelnut chocolate mousse cake - we love its crispy bottom and the fact that the mousse itself is not overly sweetened.

Besides its flavoursome menu making it a great spot for dinner with friends, Vii is also a great option for an intimate night out as it boasts a romantic  ‘secret garden’ effect.
