While retaining the authenticity of the resort’s original ambiance and style, the US $15 million renewal introduces new service features and one-of-a-kind facilities to further enhance the guest experience
The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun re-opened to guests in September following an extensive renovation after last October’s Hurricane Wilma, which swept across Mexico, Cuba and the Cayman Islands. While retaining the authenticity of the resort’s original ambiance and style, the US $15 million renewal introduces new service features and one-of-a-kind facilities to further enhance the guest experience.
However, one element that has remained the same is the staff. Over 90% of the hotel’s original employees have returned to the hotel.

The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun returns with an upgraded Kayantá Spa that introduces new services and treatments along with an expanded fitness centre. In addition, Casitas, a seaside restaurant featuring 16 private cabanas, will offer guests first class pampering and privacy.
The new $250,000 Culinary Centre with Viking Range equipment will enable the hotel to host celebrity chefs and conduct comprehensive interactive cooking classes. The Culinary Centre offers two educational and entertaining cooking classes, plus one Tequila or wine tasting six days per week. Themed classes, including Spa Cuisine, Real Mexican, a Grilling Feast, Tuscan Dinner Party and Treasures from the Sea, cover three to five recipes.
All 365 guestrooms, public areas, recreational and meeting facilities have been refreshed and enhanced. Coffee machines, 400-thread count linens and rain shower systems have now been added to all bedrooms. The resort also increased the number of connecting rooms from 36 to 47, while all suites now boast a 32-inch LCD flat screen television.
The Lobby Lounge has been transformed into a casually elegant setting, offering an array of dining and entertainment experiences. The Ceviche Bar features a light selection of ceviches and sashimis.
The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun also includes the addition of the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Centre, the newest premier sporting facility. Created in partnership with Drysdale, the sports centre provides year-round programmes. Services range from private lessons and corporate events to round-robin tournaments and international exhibitions.
Hurricane Wilma hit Central America in mid October of last year, causing hotels in the seaside resort of Cancun to evacuate guests to safety. Many properties sustained substantial damage, as the storm ripped through the holiday town.
One year on, the tourism season is now getting back to business as usual, as hotels such as The Ritz-Carton, Cancun, prepare to welcome back travellers.
