Room with a Vu

Vu's restaurant is a favourite meeting place for dubai's business elite. First Class finds out why.

Vu's restaurant is a favourite meeting place for dubai's business elite. First Class finds out why.

If you are in Dubai for business, you may have spent some time at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, the iconic twin towers on Sheikh Zayed Road in the heart of the financial district.

All the restaurants at the Jumeirah operation are truly exquisite, but located on the 50th floor of the hotel tower, Vu's is head and shoulders above the rest.

Winner of Time Out's Best Business Lunch In Town award as well as various Grumpy Gourmet accolades, including being named as one of the top 10 restaurants in the UAE, it's easy to see why Vu's is often the business diners' choice.

The restaurant's name is appropriate. The view is spectacular. For the out-of-town visitor the breathtaking scenery of the blossoming city below is a treat in itself. The elegant setting and the intrinsic attention to detail places Vu's among the top destinations in the Gulf.

While the ambience and atmosphere are important, the most important factor in evaluating a restaurant is the food. While many sky-high restaurants might rely too heavily on their location to attract diners, the top-notch offerings at Vu's ensure that the restaurant cannot be mistaken for an observatory.

With this in mind First Class went on a business lunch, to sample the offerings. Not many other places in Dubai have more deals being brokered and more VIP visitors than the Emirates Towers, making Vu's the perfect place to make business a pleasure.
A good bet for lunch is to order from the business lunch menu which is constantly updated, meaning every visit presents a new feast of flavours to choose from.

Vu's even boasts of having a menu so exotic you will experience "ingredients you've never heard of and flavours you have never dreamt of" and with a full menu always available, our advice would be avoid the familiar and test your tastebuds with something new and exotic everytime.

If you are looking for a lighter bite, you can go for the H20 Detox, which has the calorie content for all the dishes and comes highly recommended.

The ‘first flavours' choice on the menu has many offerings but the one that jumps out is the open ravioli of braised duck and wild mushrooms, an extremely delicate dish that blends East and West perfectly.

Most diners take their impression of the food from the first bite which meant, for me, Vu's was off to a flying start.

The main course may be reminiscent of aeroplane bites by the choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian options, but that is where the comparison ends. The tagliolini pasta with black truffles and sunchoke cream proved to be a true crowd pleaser, and according to the Italian I was dining with, it was even better than home. The rack of lamb with enoki mushroom was a great cut of meat and wonderfully presented, if a little more well done than I would have preferred. But even if the meat was slightly overcooked, it was easy to forgive and forget by dessert.
If you're the type of diner who shys away from dessert and goes straight for coffee, at Vu's you would be making a big mistake.

Vu's offers tiny desserts that are delicate but unforgettable. Delectable choices such as passion fruit crème brûlée with lychee sorbet are comletely irresistable and are small enough to leaving you feeling guilt-free.

Throughout the meal, the service was excellent, if a little over-attentive, and you never have to ask for anything from the staff, or look far for the manager who constantly ensuring everyone in the restaurant is comfortable.

As you might expect with a restaurant of this standard, there is a dress code in place, so don't expect a table if you're not dressd to impress.

Of course, Vu's is an expensive piece of real estate and has a life outside of lunch.

The view is illuminated at night, when it becomes a hotspot for VIP dining. Prices are not cheap, so be sure to bring the corporate charge card and talk business.
