Rotana eyes UAE for new hotel brand launch

Hotel operator Rotana group is developing a new brand called Centro Resorts and targeting the UAE for its launch, Arabian Business can reveal.

Centro Resorts would be a midmarket brand aimed at families looking for good-value but high-quality holiday hotels.

CEO Omer Kaddouri said that talks were ongoing with interested parties over possible locations for Centro Resorts.

The first agreement is likely to be signed in the second half of 2016, Kaddouri revealed.

He said: “[Centro Resorts] would fit beautifully on Palm Jumeirah, Ras Al Khaimah and any other resort location in the UAE. We are in talks for a few resorts but nothing solid enough to announce.

“There are currently no Centro Resorts in the UAE or elsewhere.”

Rotana has an existing brand called Centro Hotels of which there are six across the GCC at present. These are the 229-room Centro Capital Doha; the 239-room Centro Al Manhal Abu Dhabi; the 414-room Centro Capital Centre Abu Dhabi; the 259-room Centro Yas Island Abu Dhabi; the 246-room Centro Barsha in Dubai, and the 306-room Centro Sharjah.

It is though that Centro Resorts would provide a similar number of rooms but a wider range of facilities for families and beachfront locations.

Kaddouri said: “There are definite opportunities for new midmarket hotel brands across the GCC, where people could stay on the Palm Jumeirah, or on a beach in Ras Al Khaimah, but pay $100 a night, rather than $300.

“This is a huge niche and more can be done.”
