Developers can sign up for US $1 to promote and sell their apps to run on Symbian or Windows Mobile OS cellphones
Samsung will launch a seller site tomorrow that the company says will connect application developers and content providers to app customers.
The company is planning for developers to register their content or applications at an anticipated price on its seller site. The applications will then be filtered through a backend system and promoted on the Samsung Application Store.
Developers will be able to sign up to the seller site for US $1 to promote and sell their apps for the Symbian or Windows Mobile operating systems that certain Samsung mobile phones run on. Members of this seller site can purchase sales contracts online, check the certification status in real time; and obtain statistics such as sales records, revenue and levels of content popularity. The billing and payment will also be handled online.
Kanghyun Kwon, Vice President of Samsung’s Content Services Team, says: “We launched a Samsung Application Store beta service in January in the UK and have been collaborating with developers and content providers through Samsung Mobile Innovator, a developer program for Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Java from October, 2008. With the launch of Samsung’s Application Seller Site, we can complete the total eco-system for better, easier, and more exciting mobile experiences ranging from compelling mobile phones to content and applications. We are aiming to achieve a win-win business model for end-users, mobile operators, and industry influencers, such as developers and content providers.”
Many mobile manufacturers have delved into the mobile app store phenomenon ever since Apple’s App Store for the iPhone became popular. Apart from the Samsung App store, the likes of Nokia have its Ovi store and Google Android has gone one step further with the Android Market where Android users can download some applications for free.
