SAP in the mix

ACN asks a number of IT professionals if they have used SAP's products in the past or will in the future.

SAP has had a chequered history in the MENA region. ACN asked a number of IT professionals if they had used the firm's products in the past - and if not, were prepared to consider using them in the future.

Ahmad Almulla , CIO, Dubai Aluminum Company (Dubal)

We use the SAP ERP. We have recently completed the second phase of our implementation of SAP and as a product we stand by it and hope to build on it in the future.

Currently we follow the onsite (in-house) and offsite (support partner) support model which is satisfactory. Also, whenever required till date, the level of support requested from SAP AG has been satisfactory.

Constantin Vaduvac, Assistant IT manager, UAE University

We have an ERP that is customised for university purposes. It's a completely different platform to SAP.

I don't think that we will change because the solution is provided by Sunguard and is completely customised for education. So it has quite a few specialised models with that. Our ERP was only implemented about two years ago and switching to another application is not something that will happen soon anyway. Sanjose Netto, IT manager, Millennium Hotel Sharjah

We do not presently use an enterprise resource planning (ERP) model within the hotel.

We are all stand-alone hotels in the Millennium Group and, to be honest, we do not believer we really have a big enough client base to need one. This is not to say that we are not planning to look at them sometime in the future though. But if I had to choose one it would probably be Oracle because it has been proven and time-tested.

Sergio Macotta, SAP MENA Managing Director

I don't believe we have met too many customers that have bad experiences in the past. They are really enthusiastic about the fact that we are here. Whenever they think about business, they think about whether it can support them for the long run.

The type of requests we are receiving are how SAP can bring value, what are the solutions SAP can offer and which are the partners that can best support my growth?
