Savola Group chairman Adel Fakieh has been appointed as Saudi Arabia’s new labour minister following the death of Ghazi Al Gosaibi earlier this week.

"Engineer Adel bin Muhammad Fakieh is relieved of his present position as mayor of Jeddah and has been appointed minister of labor," King Abdullah said in a royal decree, according to Arab News.

Fakieh was also mayor of Jeddah, a member of the Makkah Provincial Council. Prior to becoming mayer, he served as chairman of JCCI and chairman of Bank Aljazira.

The Jeddah position will be taken by Hani bin Muhammad Aburas on the recommendation of Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour bin Miteb, the newspaper said.

Ghazi Al Gosaibi, a long-time politician an poet, died on Sunday in Riyadh after a long illness. He was buried the same day the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in the Saudi capital.
