Saudi Arabia may award contracts to build a new terminal at Jeddah’s airport by the end of the year, according to Abdullah Ruhaimi, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation.

A committee of ministry officials will make the decision, Ruhaimi told reporters in Jeddah today.

He said: “We are done with qualifying the bidders and evaluating their bids."

Ruhaimi added: “It’s now up to the committee to decide on the winner and I guess this will happen before year end.”

The authority plans to spend between $10 billion and $20 billion to develop and upgrade airports by 2020, with private investors set to contribute up to $10 billion, Ruhaimi said in November.
