Saudi ministry plans image overhaul

Ministry of Justice vows to set the record straight with appointment of its first press spokesman.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Justice is to appoint its first official press spokesman in a bid to improve its reputation in the international media.

The ministry regularly comes under fire over its handling of human rights cases, which has prompted local newspapers to call for the appointment of a communications expert.

The ministry denied, however, that the move was planned in response to criticism over recent cases.

Ministry advisor Abdullah M. Al Shihry told Gulf News, “For some time we have been thinking of this matter as we are keen to improve the ministry’s image and at the same time provide the media and the public with correct, rumour-free and fabrication-free statements”.
