Saad Hariri, the 37-year-old Saudi-born Lebanese parliamentary majority leader and son of the late prime minister Rafik Hariri, is the wealthiest of the Hariri clan, with significant stakes in a number of large firms.
Raised in Saudi Arabia, Saad managed part of his father’s business until his father’s assassination in February 2005 when he returned to Lebanon to follow his father’s path in politics. He is the general manager of Saudi Oger, the family’s $9bn construction company.
Married with children, Saad is a business graduate from Georgetown University in Washington. In some previous
lists, we have grouped the entire Hariri family into one. As was explained in the last Rich List, however, upon looking more closely at their wealth we now believe this was an oversight.
We have now elected to split the family into individuals due to the different relationships and diverse business interests of its various members. Look out for other representatives of the Hariri family later in this list.
