Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman has been in discussions with his counterparts in the US and Germany over increased tensions in the Middle East this week.

The prince, who is minister of defense, held separate phone calls with US Secretary of State John Kerry and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, the official Saudi Press Agency said.

The prince discussed strengthening bilateral relations and joint efforts to combat terrorism, SPA said.

Tensions in the region have soared this week after Saudi Arabia executed a leading Shia cleric Nir Al Nimr, among 47 executions on Saturday. Shia-majority Iran has threatened ‘devine’ revenge for the cleric’s death.
