Braemer Golf Development and Nass Contracting joint venture beats off three other firms for the deal
A joint venture of Scotland’s Braemer Golf Development and Bahrain’s Nass Contracting has won the US $11.7 million (BD4.4 million) contract to build the Colin Montgomerie-designed golf course at the Riffa Views residential project in Bahrain.
The partnership, known as BGD-Nass, fended off competition from three other firms and will complete the 18-hole championship course in April 2008 – six months ahead of the original schedule.
The project is being developed by Riffa Golf and Residential Development Company.
“The partnership brings a professional calibre that is essential for the quality demanded by the Riffa Views project,” said Richard Browning, chief executive officer, Riffa Golf and Residential Development Company.
“With Braemar Golf Development and Nass Contracting on board we are now able to accelerate the design and construction of the new course, enabling us to bring forward the delivery of the new, hugely improved facilities by six months to April 2008.”
BGD-Nass demonstrated a mix of large-scale construction experience coupled with site-specific technical golf knowledge and an understanding of the standard of quality the golf course demands.
The Riffa Views development will also feature 900 homes, along with the Boris Becker Tennis Academy, International School and the Country Club and Hotel.
“The turnkey construction ability of Nass in the Gulf, in conjunction with the technical golf course management and construction skills specific to the region, accumulated by BGD over a number of years working in the Middle East, have been key to the success of the bid,” said David Dean, principal, BGD.
Nass Contracting also teamed up with Burhan International Construction Company in September for the $25.7 million construction and retification works contract on phase one of Durrat Al Bahrain. The partnership also secured a $130.8 million contract for the construction of the new King Hamad General Hospital in Muharraq, Bahrain.
