Security taken at interface value

New embedded firewall architecture combines hardware and software to create manageable net security

3Com has produced an Embedded Firewall that it says will extend the protection of the perimeter firewall, bringing tamper resistant security to all at-risk desktops and servers – the most likely entry points for would-be attackers. The 3Com Embedded Firewall controls user access and filters all traffic regardless of whether it originates from inside the corporate LAN or across the Internet. The company has also detailed plans for a secure Embedded Firewall product tailored specifically to notebook PCs. 3Com plans to offer a secure mobile product line for telecommuters and mobile travelers, whom 3Com describe as “often the most vulnerable equipment in an enterprise”. “3Com is the only networking provider designing security into all of its desktop, server and mobile networking solutions,” said Dennis Connors, president, BCC. “3Com’s Embedded Firewall solution protects electronic assets by extending the perimeter firewall, giving unparalleled network security at every at-risk device.”
