Seven men believed to be Bangladeshis caught in fire at illegal furniture-manufacturing factory in Jeddah.
Seven men burned to death on Saturday after being caught in a fire at an illegal furniture-manufacturing factory in Jeddah.
The victims’ identities and nationalities have yet to be confirmed but all are believed to be Bangladeshi nationals, Saudi daily Arab News reported on Sunday.
According to Saudi Civil Defense, the seven men lived in the workshop and were trapped in the living quarters when the blaze broke out at around 1pm.
Authorities do not know the total number of people inside the workshop and are still searching for more bodies.
Civil Defense officials believe the factory was operating illegally and employing workers who were living illegally in the kingdom.
“Foul play has not been ruled out,” an anonymous official source told Arab News.
The fire tore through the entire building so quickly because of the flammable nature of the materials inside the factory used to make furniture, authorities said.
