Shangri-La has announced the long-awaited opening of two new elements at its Abu Dhabi property — serviced apartments and luxury villas.

The 161 serviced apartments and seven exclusive villas were officially opened last week by Qaryat Al Beri Resort Development Company general manager Fatima Obeid Al Jaber, along with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts vice president Middle East and India Bernhard Haechler and the property’s general manager Adrian Rudin.

All the apartments, which range from 46m² studios to 232m² four-bedroom units, are fully equipped with a fitted kitchen, LCD televisions and DVD player.

Guests at the residences have exclusive use of a private beach and access to a health club, private pools and full housekeeping services.

The seven individually-themed luxury villas each boast four bedrooms, state-of-the-art technology, designer furniture, a majlis, dining room, lounge and fully equipped kitchen.

Selected properties boast additional facilities including a study and private cinema.

Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, the first internationally-branded property to arrive in the UAE capital for 15 years, opened in August 2007.

In a recent interview with Hotelier Middle East magazine, the property’s general manager Adrian Rudin commented that the property had enjoyed a “very successful” first year of operations.

“We became the market leader in the city and had a very good performance, so we are very pleased with the build-up; it was unusually fast,” Rudin said.

“The ADTA is working very closely with us, because we are the first hotel in a long time to come online here; I think we are the first international hotel brand to come here in 15 years,” he continued. “So we are working closely with them and it’s a mutual effort to sell the destination.”
