The University of Sharjah has built a wireless local area network (WLAN) covering its 13 colleges, deploying a range of solutions from Trapeze Networks.

The university has deployed Trapeze's MX-400 Mobility Exchanges, which deliver WiFi services for large numbers of users, along with the latest version of Trapeze's RingMaster Planning and RingMaster Management suites, allowing over 8,500 concurrent users to migrate to the new infrastructure.

"We needed a stable, reliable and secure wireless solution for our educational environment that also ensured seamless integration in the existing wired network and extended the network access," said Dr. Mostepha Belmihoub, computer center director at University of Sharjah. "After thorough investigation of the available WLAN technology vendors, we selected the Trapeze Networks Smart Mobile solution through EMW (East Meets West). The main reasons for this were our long-term relationship with our systems integrator EMW and the proven functionality of the Trapeze Mobility System."

Feras Zeidan, Trapeze Networks' regional manager for MEA, added: "We are glad that our mobility solutions helped address the wireless connectivity requirements of the University of Sharjah. This WLAN infrastructure that is accessible 24-hours-a-day with multimedia capabilities, will also meet the high security and capability standards of the university.
