Singer's daughter murdered in Cairo, suspect held

Egyptian man arrested after DNA and fingerprints founds at murder scene.

A prosecutor has ordered the detention of an Egyptian building worker suspected of murdering Moroccan singer Leila Ghofran's daughter and her friend in Cairo, the state news agency MENA reported on Wednesday.

Police said on Tuesday they had arrested Mahmud Sayed Abdel Hafiz, 20, and that he had confessed after his DNA and fingerprints were found on a knife used to stab Ghofran's daughter Heba Al-Akkad, aged 23 according to one report, and her friend Nadine Khaled.

Akkad's husband found the two lying in a pool of blood last Thursday in Khaled's apartment in an affluent Cairo suburb.

Police said Abdel Hafiz had entered the apartment to steal money and then used a window to escape after the murders.
