Six Senses to open first destination spa

Resort to be built in Phuket, Thailand featuring a 'fishertarian' restaurant.

Six Senses Resorts & Spas is opening its first destination spa - Six Senses Erawan - on Phuket in Thailand in December.

The resort will offer 61 pool villas and pool villa suites; The Enclave - a cluster of six villas ideal for groups or families; and The Retreat on the Hill - a private villa in 2000m².

Unique features of the destination spa include the spa's treatment concept, which instead of packages are named ‘Packages in Life'.

They include  ‘Fitness Booster', ‘Maximum Mean's Health', ‘Reawakening Love for Couples', ‘Body Confidence', ‘Inner Peace', ‘Vital Stress Relief', and ‘Mother-to-be'.

In addition, the resort, which will be run by former Chiva-Som MD, Ana Maria Tavares, will be ‘fishertarian', serving organic fish and vegetables only (no meat). It will also feature a restaurant serving raw ingredients only.

The company will also open the doors to its first Middle East property on November 1 for a soft launch, with an officially opening planned for January 10, 2008.

November bookings for the Evason Hideaway & Six Senses Spa at Zighy Bay are already flooding in and the property is now 75% completed, according to Naim Maadad, the property's general manager, and area general manager - Middle East - for Six Senses Resorts & Spas.

"We are currently building the spa, which will have nine treatment rooms and two Arabian hammams," said Maadad.

He also revealed the spa would feature an ice-room where guests can cool off after a sauna.

"The wine cellar is also taking shape and will be one of the biggest in the Middle East with 400 labels, focusing on French and New World wines - we even have a boutique wine from South Australia," Maadad added.

Bookings to date, he said, were primarily from the UK, 35% of which was repeat business from customers that had visited other Six Senses properties.

Evason Hideaway & Six Senses Spa at Zighy Bay is set to be the first eco-friendly resort in the Musandam Peninsula of the Sultanate of Oman, located 90 minutes by road from Dubai. Guests will have a choice of three arrival experiences: a scenic 10-minute drive by speedboat; a 4WD experience from the hilltop; or they can paraglide into the resort. The dramatic setting, with mountains on one side and a 1.6-km white sand beach at Zighy Bay, on the other, will host 82 pool villas and pool villa suites - all with butler service, as well as private mini-resort, The Retreat.
