Motorist gets four months and ordered to pay $54,400 in blood money to families.
A speeding motorist who fell asleep at the wheel and killed two pedestrians has been sentenced to four months in prison.The Asian driver was also ordered to pay $54,400 in blood money to each of the deceased’s families, UAE daily 7 Days reported on Sunday.
The man’s driving licence was also suspended for one year by judges following the trial at Dubai Traffic Court.
The 43-year-old was convicted of reckless driving and killing the two pedestrians in March in the Al-Awir district of Dubai.
A police officer said in records read to the court: “He was driving at high speeds and then fell asleep as he was tired. It was just after midnight.”
Police said the car ran off the road and then struck two Asian men walking beside the road.
