The Smart Dubai Office (SDO), in partnership with global innovation network 1776, is organising a competition which will see three winning blockchain start-ups implementing their product or service in Dubai.
SDO is inviting innovative blockchain start-ups from across the world to enter The Blockchain Challenge, a two-day start-up pitch competition to be held in Dubai in May.
Finalists of the Blockchain Challenge will travel to Dubai to participate in the programme, including a pitch competition to an audience of investors, experts, private and public institutions.
The prize money for the three winners amounts to US$20,000, US$15,000, and US$10,000 respectively. Winners will also get the opportunity to implement, as well as receive a free membership in Union, 1776’s global online platform for entrepreneurs.
“Dubai is in the midst of an ambitious, citywide transformation powered by smart technology,” said HE Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, director general, Smart Dubai Office. “Our partnership with 1776 on the Blockchain Challenge allows us to identify strong start-up partners and innovative thinkers who can bring to market cutting-edge solutions that will deliver the future city our stakeholders want and expect.”
The Dubai Blockchain Strategy aims for Dubai to become the first blockchain-powered city by 2020. It is based on three pillars that center on implementing blockchain technology in government services, supporting the creation of a blockchain industry through empowering start-ups and businesses, and leading global thinking on blockchain technology.
The Smart Dubai Office Blockchain Challenge will contribute to the strategy’s industry creation pillar by identifying the most innovative blockchain ideas from start-ups around the world and bringing them to Dubai to deliver efficient, seamless, safe and impactful city experiences for residents and visitors alike.
