The Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) has gone live with a new SMS service that can be used by the general public as well as lawyers and prosecutors to find out the details of specific cases.

The SMS feature is presently limited to the Judiciary and Public Prosecution areas but is expected to expand to other government authorities in the future.

It involves sending a text message directly to the DPP with details of the enquiry, such as the case type, case number and year, for a fee of AED 60 fils for each SMS. It’s the latest in a series of electronic solutions deployed by the Dubai eGovernment to improve and modernise government-related services in the country.

The DPP already has a portal – www.dxbpp.gov.ae – which handles case enquiries and accepts online applications for related services such as filing criminal reports and requests for exoneration and reinvestigation.

"This move is the beginning of a new phase in the provision of judicial services in view of its role in facilitating legal procedures, reducing the time taken and minimizing general costs, which contribute to strengthening the national economy and promoting social development in Dubai and the UAE in general” commented Isam Isa Al Humaidan, Dubai's Attorney General on the service.

For instructions on how to use the SMS service along with assistance on the right codes to use, read the DPP’s SMS Service Guide.
