Socket plugs in new EMEA management team

Mobile productivity devices vendor Socket Communications has appointed a regional manager to look after its business in the Middle East and Africa as part of an overall push to strengthen its senior EMEA management team.

Mobile productivity devices vendor Socket Communications has appointed a regional manager to look after its business in the Middle East and Africa as part of an overall push to strengthen its senior EMEA management team.

Gennaro Giachetta, who formerly served as EMEA regional VP at US Robotics, will take control of the company’s strategy throughout the Arab Nations, Lebanon and Africa. His remit also includes Italy, Eastern Europe, Greece and Turkey. As well as spending time at US Robotics, Giachetta, who will be based in Milan, has worked for 3Com, Servgate Technologies, Fiberlink, Fujitsu Telecommunications and Stratus Computer.

Giachetta's appointment is one of three senior EMEA roles that the company has filled during the past month. It also named former Every Com marketing chief Phillippe Vazquez as its boss for Belgium and Southern Europe, and hired Holger Sponholz from Targus to run the Nordic and DACH regions of Europe. The trio sit alongside existing UK boss Anna Meens to round out the EMEA team.

“These appointments introduce seasoned and talented individuals to our management team,” said Kevin Mills, president and CEO at Socket Communications. “As we continue to expand distribution and introduce even more exciting new products, their understanding of the marketing and technology behind Socket products will significantly strengthen our sales initiatives in these regions and will be instrumental in communicating the many benefits offered by Socket Communications to business professionals.”

Martin Croome, VP business development at Socket, added: “Our commitment to EMEA and our confidence in the market opportunities that are present is underscored by these appointments. With the new regional sales managers, we will be even better positioned to bring the benefits of data collection and mobile productivity products to customers in the region,” he concluded.

US-based Socket reported a 4% year-on-year jump in sales to US$6.9m during its most recent quarter. However, the company recorded a US$448,000 loss compared with a slight profit in the same period last year.
