Spidermen scale Dubai's tallest towers

Technicians maintain Dubai buildings clad in superhero’s trademark suit and mask.

Spidermen scale Dubai's tallest towers
GREAT RESPONSIBILITY: The firm’s technicians inspect, clean and fix the frontage of Dubai’s tallest towers.

A Dubai-based maintenance firm has caused a stir by kitting its staff out in full Spiderman attire as they abseil from high-rise buildings.

Spidey-Style, whose abseiling employees carry out their high-rise duties dressed head to toe in superhero garb, was most recently contracted to polish the façade of the Movenpick Hotel, Jumeirah Beach.

The firm’s technicians inspect, clean and fix the frontage of Dubai’s tallest towers, clad in Spiderman’s trademark red and blue suit and mask - occasionally pausing in their duties to wave at startled passers-by.

“We believe in finding the passion and fun in everything we do. If we can have Spiderman clean our exterior, then why not? It puts a smile on people’s faces,” said Mövenpick general manager, Peter O’Connor.

Mazen Harake, managing director of Spider-Style, said the firm has adapted traditional rock-climbing techniques to allow staff to scale superscrapers and complete routine repairs. Each employee is an experienced abseiler, though Haraka did not confirm whether spider-senses were a prerequisite for the job.

“We’ve adapted the technique for use in the cleaning and maintenance of high-rise and residential buildings,” he said. “We can perform any height-related cleaning and maintenance job done much quicker and with more thoroughness than anyone else.”

Prepare for Marvel Inc. to come knocking on your door and not to have their windows cleaned or building maintained. Making a profit from a character likeness will only bring a lawsuit. Maybe they won't take notice.....who knows. I think it's a great idea and Dubai needs a little bit of lightheartedness but just keep on guard.
