Boxer Kell Brook has sought a showdown with fellow Briton Amir Khan “in the wrong way” by frequently taunting and vowing to knock him out, according to Amir Khan.
In recent weeks, speculation has swirled about whether Khan’s next opponent will be Sheffield-native Brook or American Terence Crawford, whom many consider the top pound-to-pound fighter in the world.
Brook, for his part, has repeatedly taunted Khan and has vowed to knock him out if the two met in the ring.
Speaking to Arabian Business last week in Dubai, Khan said that said he disagreed with Brook’s approach to trying to secure a fight.
“When [boxers] talk too much because they think it will get them a fight, I think it’s wrong,” he said. “Kell, I think, has done it in the wrong way. If he’s constantly talking smack about me, saying I’m not good, that he’ll beat me and that he’ll knock me out, people are going to wonder why, if he thinks that, he wants to fight me for.”
‘He’s already knocking the fight and already hurting the fight, and then he comes and asks for a crazy amount of money,” he said. “I don’t get what he’s playing at.”
Khan, however, declined to say whether he believes he will fight either Brook or Crawford.
“Both names are massive and I want to be in a big fight. It would be a dream to fight at Wembley Stadium,” he said. “I just feel that with Crawford, he’s a great fight, a world champion and pound-for-pound number one….beating him would be unbelievable.”
Additionally, Khan said that he believes he’s in a “good position” at having to choose between Brook and Crawford and expects an announcement to come in the next several weeks.
“We’re still negotiating and talking to both parties and we’ll take it from there,” he added. “It’s what suits me more and what will make more business sense.”
Khan was in Dubai to announce his new role as brand ambassador for Berkeley Assets, a private equity firm with offices in Dubai and London. For all the latest business news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
