Big stars sign up for indoor cricket festival in Dubai

West Indian Chris Gayle is the most sought after batsman in white ball cricket of this generation.

The Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai will host a five-day extravaganza of "cage cricket" in Feburary 2020 with stars including Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Shahid Afridi, Kevin Pietersen and Andre Russell taking part.

The Ultimate Kricket Challenge will see some of the world's best players competing in this pioneering indoor spectacle.

Recently retired Singh and Gayle launched the event to be held tentatively from February 18-23.

They said they were looking forward to a new version of their game – which has seen a series of innovations with the format with the UAE-based T10 League emerging as the shortest form so far.

West Indian Gayle, the most sought after batsman in white ball cricket of this generation, said: “I can’t wait to have a practice run." while Singh added: It’s a new and exciting format and it’s growth depends on how we start the first edition.”

For cricket fans, the event will see match-ups between two cricketers for a contest of 30 balls per player. If a player gets dismissed for a total of five times, his innings is considered to be over while each match will be determined by more number of runs scored.

The match balls were displayed at the press conference. They will be lighter than normal balls at 130oz. Each day, the matches will continue for two hours and will have a sizeable presence of Bollywood quotient as well with stars and dance numbers, organisers said.
