World-famous football club to help UAE Arabian Gulf League champions bring through the next generation of local stars
Sharjah’s youth academy is to be helped by one of the best in the business thanks to a three-year agreement struck with Dutch football giants Ajax.
The current UAE Arabian Gulf League champions and UAE Super Cup holders have partnered with the legendary outfit from Amsterdam, famed for bringing through stars such as Johan Cruijff, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert and, more recently, Frenkie de Jong and Matthujs de Ligt.
As part of the agreement, staff from Ajax will be based in the UAE, looking after all aspects of the academy, such as scouting, talent development and the supporting departments.
Sharjah FC president Mohsim Musabah, said: “We are looking forward from this co-operation to develop our football academy in Sharjah FC by implementing best training methodologies and best and latest global techniques to build a unique generation of football players and prepare them to lead the sports in the future, as well as developing capabilities of UAE coaches with direct contact with the coaches from Ajax academy.”
Ajax already has similar partnerships throughout the world, with Guangzhou R&F FC (China), Sagan Tosu (Japan) and Sydney FC (Australia), among others.
Ajax CEO, Edwin van der Sar, said: “Sharjah FC has a similar philosophy and we share a mutual vision regarding youth education. Our aim is to build a strong youth academy together, bringing talents to the next level.”
