Marine and water sports competitions to resume in Dubai

Number of events expected to take place in the coming days off the coast of Dubai and on Hatta Dam Lake

Marine and water sports competitions to resume in Dubai
Hatta Dam Lake is one of several spots in Dubai looking to host events in the coming days.

Marine and water sports competitions are allowed to resume in Dubai, following directives from Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC).

And a number of events are expected to take place in the coming days, off the coast of Dubai and on Hatta Dam Lake.

The announcement comes as DSC gradually opens up the sports sector following weeks of Covid-19-enforced closure.

However, it comes with a detailed list of guidelines that must be followed by organisations and participants and events must receive prior approval from DSC before going ahead.

Events will be held behind closed doors, with no fans or visitors allowed inside venues, while children below the age of 12 and adults over 60 are not allowed to take part in competitions - staff older than 60 will also not be allowed inside facilities, along with anyone suffering from chronic or respiratory diseases.

Wearing of masks will be mandatory for everyone, and the council also recommends use of protective goggles, or face shields.

Further guidelines include regular disinfection as per instructions from Dubai Municipality and ensuring safe distancing is maintained.
