Images were taken while filming took place in the emirate for the seventh edition of sci-fi franchise
Images of filming of the latest instalment of the Star Wars franchise have been leaked online by one of the crew working on the set in Abu Dhabi, reports have confirmed.
Filming of Star Wars VII wrapped up this week, but images from the closely guarded set were leaked to Hollywood gossip site TMZ.
The images feature a giant creature and a recreation of the Tatooine marketplace, which was filmed in Tunisia in the original trilogy directed by George Lucas.
Last month, twofour54, the commercial arm of the Media Zone Authority in Abu Dhabi, finally confirmed the movie was being filmed in the emirate.
Hundreds of local and international cast and crew are currently working on the production, it confirmed on May 21.
“We are delighted that Abu Dhabi has attracted another major international production and are thrilled to have welcomed the Star Wars team. Having Star Wars: Episode VII film in the Emirate shows Abu Dhabi is emerging as the region’s leading media and entertainment hub,” said Noura Al Kaabi, CEO for twofour54.
