How to stop your business from invading your personal life

Here is how to maintain a personal life with a hectic work schedule, according to Dhiren P. Harchandani, board member of global non-profit platform Entrepreneurs Organisation.

How to stop your business from invading your personal life

1. Be more productive

Being productive is not about working more, but working smarter. Avoid disturbances including social media, take short and frequent breaks and use daily rituals such as meditation to increase your productivity.

2. Do not focus on work-life balance

A total balance between the two is unprofitable and unrealistic. Be as flexible as possible and try to be effective in both roles – as an entrepreneur and parent, spouse or friend.

3. Talk about business at home

Do not think about this as bringing your worries home. Think about it as sharing aspects of your business with loved ones, including failures as well as successes, so they can better understand your work values and ethics.

4. Learn to delegate and trust

You cannot always take on everything alone. It is a factor of stress and creates an imbalance between your professional and personal life. Distribute work tasks among your employees to optimise your workload.

5. Integrate your interests into your business

You have probably become an entrepreneur to live your passion, but it is easy to lose sight of it. Give meaning to your work without sacrificing your personal interests, whether it is through mentoring a young employee or taking your spouse along on a business trip.
