Creative Mornings Dubai will celebrate its sixth birthday this month, marking the occasion with its 50th thoughtfulness-themed breakfast lecture.

The event, to be held at the NEST co-working space in the TRYP Wyndham Hotel in Barsha Heights on 15 October, will feature renowned Emirati spoken-word artist Afra Atiq.

Atiq, who has won awards for her performance poetry, will bring her proprietary brand of common sense and social observation to the Creative Mornings stage when she talks about finding her flow in life, and how others might discover theirs.

“Always use words,” she said ahead of the event, “words of kindness, words of laughter, words of wisdom. Words can change people and words can change you, if you let them.”

Creative Mornings Dubai is one of 207 global chapters, and the first to come to the Middle East. Dr James Piecowye, an associate professor at Zayed University’s College of Communication and Media Sciences, Dubai Campus, and Paul Kelly, Chief Knowledge Officer at Digital Ape MENA, started the Dubai chapter.

“Paul and I brought Creative Mornings to Dubai because we saw a thriving innovation community crying out for a catalyst that is consistent, free, has no hidden agendas, and speaks to everyone in the emirate as a united community,” said Piecowye, former host of Nightline on DubaiEye 103.8FM, and referred to variously as a “MacGyver Educationalist” and an “Audience Engagement Evangelist”.

Creative Mornings’ Dubai chapter is organised by a dedicated team of volunteers and supported by NEST, the urban co-working space hosted in the TRYP Hotel. With further support from “imaginess” pioneer Sajory and Dubai-based podcast broadcaster Podaholiks, the team of partners and innovation enthusiasts now facilitates 10 breakfast lectures a year that are completely free and open to anyone.
