A new award is being offered to young entrepreneurs whose businesses are developing the UAE’s culture sector.
The British Council recently launched the Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) – Culture Award 2014, which aims to honour entrepreneurs who are reaching new audiences though innovative business models and media platforms.
Applications for the award are open until 28 May, with organisers inviting not only business owners, but also employees who have shown entrepreneurial spirit in the realms of film, dance, theatre, and other cultural industry.
Marc Jessel, director of the British Council in the UAE, said: “The aim of the YCE – Culture Award programme is to identify and connect a group of emerging creative pioneers, running a business at the intersection of culture, technology and entrepreneurship or is innovating within a cultural institution as an ‘intrapreneur’.”
Applicants must be from a young business in the cultural/creative sector with at least two years’ experience and no more than seven years in business in the UAE.
“This year we have also added new areas of recognition to the list of awards, such as digital publishing and broadcast,” Jessel added.
The winner will be announced in June, and will go on to take part in a five-day industry tour in the UK.
Highlights of the industry programme include attendance and a chance to speak at the Remix summit, meetings and networking with broadcast professionals and entrepreneurs, and access to masterclasses with UK industry figures.
