Iraqi American, who founded cosmetics brand Huda Beauty, says her social media is 'completely non-monetised'
Dubai-based beauty ‘influencer’ Huda Kattan has claimed she has never been paid for a social media post following a report by analytics firm HopperHQ which claimed she earns $33,000 per commercial post on her Instagram account.
Iraqi American Kattan, who founded cosmetics brand Huda Beauty after garnering worldwide fame for her make up tutorials on YouTube, has over 26 million fans on her Instagram account alone.
Speaking to Arabian Business, the make up artist said her social media is ‘completely non-monetised’.
“Keeping our blog and social media completely non-monetized is super important to me. I've been approached by a lot of brands who have offered insane amounts of money and we have turned them down because I just don’t feel comfortable accepting money to promote a product,” she said.
The report placed Kattan at number 20 globally in terms of social media earnings. Kylie Jenner, who also shot to fame after launching her make up line Kylie Cosmetics, was ranked number one on the list with a whopping $1 million per post.
Despite the report, Kattan said paid posts do not align with her social media strategy, which has always revolved around remaining ‘unbiased’.
“It's really hard to stay unbiased once you start accepting paid posts. Social media is and always will be a tool for me to share information and connect with our social family,” she said.
Huda Beauty is believed to be worth at least a billion dollars, with the brand selling lines ranging from false lashes and nails to skin foundation and liquid lipsticks in several countries with French giant Sephora. Kattan revealed this week she will be adding Eau de Huda Beauty fragrances to her collection of products.
