Emirati Swiss luxury firm Mouawad has acquired the largest and purest diamond offered for sale by Alrosa, the Russian mining company
Emirati Swiss luxury firm Mouawad has acquired a 51.38 carat Dynasty diamond, the largest and purest of five stones offered for sale by Alrosa, the partially state-owned Russian diamond mining company.
Dubai and Geneva-based Mouawad is known for breaking Guinness World records with bejewelled designs, such as the 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, a heart-shaped bag valued at a whopping $3.8 million thanks to 4,517 diamonds.
Company owner Robert Mouawad expanded the firm started by his grandfather in Beirut in 1890 by collecting jewellery worn by celebrities from Angelina Jolie to Gisele Bundchen.
The firm’s latest acquisition is a traditional, round brilliant-cut diamond in D color and VVS1 clarity, making it the best quality large diamond ever manufactured in Russia, according to Mouawad.
Alrosa originally unearthed the 179-carat rough diamond in 2015 at the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in the Republic of Sakha in Russia.
“What attracted us to the Dynasty is not only its exceptional quality, but the transparency of its history and the fact that it’s the largest and most valuable diamond ever sold by Alrosa. It’s a rare gem with a remarkable record,” said Fred and Pascal Mouawad, co-CEOs of the Mouawad Group.
Over the years, the company acquired a collection of exceptional diamonds, including the 245.35 carat Jubilee Diamond, the 135.92 carat Queen of Holland diamond, the 69.42 carat Taylor Burton and the largest cushion shaped D IF weighting 218.08 carat.
The company’s first store in the Gulf opened in Dubai Mall in 2010. Today, it has a total of 20 stores across the Middle East, Asia, Switzerland and the US.For all the latest fashion trends from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
