Sun eyes greater regional foothold with new initiative

Rolls out telecoverage model for SMBs to accelerate sales growth of Sun's solutions

Sun Microsystems has launched a new telecoverage model for SMBs and startups in the Middle East and North Africa region.

As its first major initiative for emerging markets, the model involves using Sun’s central call centre agents to establish contact with customers and sell Sun’s solutions.

It will be deployed by local partner companies in nearly 140 countries spanning MENA, China, Latin America, South and Eastern Europe and India.

“The roll out of the telecoverage model across the MENA region will help optimise Sun's sales reach into sectors and regions that would have otherwise been difficult to penetrate,” added Deena Habib, marketing manager, Sun Microsystems, MENA.

The telecoverage model was initially implemented in India, where it has been operating successfully for the last six years.

In its recent first quarter fiscal 2009 results, Sun revealed that the emerging market region grew grew 12% year-over-year, with India, Latin America and a combined Russia and MEA geography growing double digits.
