Swiss bell tolls for Middle East

Hong Kong-based hotel company Swiss-Belhotel International will enter the Middle Eastern market with properties in Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Hong Kong-based hotel company Swiss-Belhotel International will enter the Middle Eastern market with properties in Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Last month the company announced it would operate the Swiss-Belhotel Plaza Kuwait, an existing 164-room four-star property owned by International Trade Holding Company.

Also announced was the 153-room four-star Swiss-Belhotel Sharma Resort, in Saudi Arabia, which will include 10 food outlets, meeting and conference facilities and a range of health and spa facilities when it opens at the end of 2009.

Another property, the 221 room four-star Swiss-Belhotel Amman is under construction in Schmeisani in Amman's business district.

Swiss-Belhotel operations and development Middle East vice president Edgar Solenthaler said the company was in negotiations for "several other properties in the region, including one in the United Arab Emirates".

The company has opened a development office in Dubai.
