Storage and security vendor continues growth in storage software market
Symantec, with 18.2% market share, significant ahead of its competitors. has continued to dominate the overall storage software market in 2009 according to a report issued by analysts IDC.
The report, which is entitled the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker, also pointed out revenue growth of 15% in the market outpacing both the market and all competitors.
The IDC results indicate that while other vendors either lost market share or made only a slight gain in 2008, the security and storage major instead bucked the trend with growth.
“In 2008, while the economic environment became more challenging, customers continued to turn to Symantec to help them optimize their storage infrastructure and reduce their investments in storage hardware through increased utilization of existing assets,” said Kevin Isaac, regional director of MENA, Symantec.
Symantec also remains the market share leader in key IDC storage software categories including data protection and recovery software, storage infrastructure software, with 28.3 percent revenue share in 2008 and file system software, with 51.6 percent IDC-calculated revenue share in 2008 which as more than five times that of the next-largest competitor.
