Samsung hosts local Internet gaming competition to demonstrate qualities of new monitors. ‘Counter Strike’ winners get set to scoop prizes!
Samsung Electronics has sponsored the “Citi Challenge internet gaming competition,” hoping to raise its profile in the best of Dubai’s ‘cyber-minds’. Currently underway at the Atrium Internet Café in Dubai, opposite the Four Point Sheraton hotel, the five weeks long competition kicked off on May 16th. Visitors are invited to battle against each other in the game of ‘Counter-Strike’, a virtual skirmish between terrorist and counter-terrorist groups. Mr. K.S. Vasudevan, regional manager, digital information technology division, Samsung Gulf Electronics, explains his company’s involvement: “Though internet gaming represents a big opportunity for marketers worldwide, its success largely hinges on the near-to-real world experienced by the cyber surfer.""Our Syncmaster range of IT monitors will give cybersurfers a true chance to step into the virtual world of excitement, and thereby fuel the growth of internet gaming in the UAE and Middle East region.”The ‘Citi Challenge Internet gaming competition’ will take place every Thursday from 4pm ‘til 9pm in the evening, drawing to a close in the second week of June. Teams of five gamers can register for Dhs125.“The response to the internet gaming competition is overwhelming,” said Mr. Javed Zaveri, organiser of the competition and director of Citidotcom Cyber Café. “In fact, the youngest participant in this competition is just nine years old and over the next few weeks we will see over 50 teams battling to win grand prizes sponsored by Samsung Electronics.” As key sponsor, Samsung has released numerous prizes, including Samsung phones for the winning team, MP3 players for the runners up and a cash prize of Dhs1000 for the best player of the tournament. Consolation prizes include T-shirts, bandannas and 10 hours free counter-strike time.
