Meem Gallery will present exhibition of work by Juliet Makhlouf from May 4-21
Meem Gallery will present a solo exhibition featuring the work of the Dubai-based Syrian artist Juliet Makhlouf from May 4-21.
Melding science and pop visual geometry, Makhlouf’s paintings are articulated renditions of shape and colour that invite the viewer to be optically intrigued by the intricately constructed illusions of geometric shape and form.
Makhlouf, a former teacher of fine arts at schools in her native Syria, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is a member of the Syrian Association of Fine Art, and an honorary member of the UAE Association of Fine Arts.
Dramatically different in style from her previous work, Makhlouf’s exhibition is a continuation of her exploration of movement and form, and should be read as spontaneous expressions of the artist’s own creative and intellectual process.
A sensation of positive energy is felt by the viewer when viewing Makhlouf’s paintings, which appear to dance with life and a sense of hope, a statement said.
Makhlouf has participated in several group shows including the Russian Cultural Centre in Damascus in 1981, the yearly Sharjah/UAE exhibition from 1990-1995, and at the Allaince Française in 1996.
In more recent years, Makhlouf has had a number of solo exhibition shows including one at the Westin Hotel in Dubai in 2009; the Sharjah Art Gallery in 2010, and in Damascus in 2011. Her most recent exhibition took place in Madrid at the Syrian Cultural Center in November of 2014.For all the latest art news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
