Oracle open world stalwart, Tech Data, has grown its Oracle business by more than 100% in the past two quarters. The bulk of this growth occurred in the Emirates, where sales were up 35%, while Saudi witnessed a 20% rise in sales.According to Tech Data’s managing director, Steve Lockie, increased spending by the region’s small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs) has fueled this dramatic growth. “Small-to-medium [sized] enterprises today are willing to spend on new technologies only when it benefits their operations and return on investment is a tangible outcome. Oracle delivers technologies that uniquely address today’s small-to-medium business needs,” he says.“Strong channel support programmes delivered by Tech Data, coupled with powerful Oracle technology designed to meet the performance and budget needs of the small to medium enterprise market helped in growing the business,” adds Ayman Abouseif, marketing director for Oracle Middle East.In order to drive this SMB business forward, Tech Data is scouring Gitex and the market in general for business opportunities that it can pass onto its local reseller channel.“For the last two years, we have been alerting the channel on spending opportunities in the [SMB] market where solutions marketing, consultancy and after sales service agreements are sources of income that would potentially protect the channel from slow periods,” explains Lockie.
