Finnish firm Kone, a global company operating in the elevator and escalator industry, will equip Reem Mall, the $1.2 billion retail destination being built on Reem Island on the northeast coast of Abu Dhabi.

With 186,000 sq m of gross leasable area, Reem Mall is set to feature 100 restaurants, department stores, one of the largest hypermarket space in the region, as well as unique entertainment and edutainment features including Snow Park Abu Dhabi.

Kone said it will equip Reem Mall with 50 elevators, 60 escalators, and 10 inclined autowalks to help keep shoppers on the move.

The Kone E-Link equipment will enable the performance of all of the elevators, escalators and autowalks across the property to be monitored in real time from a single location.

“Our mission is to improve the flow of urban life, and it is very exciting to contribute to the creation of this new urban hub in the heart of the ‘new Abu Dhabi’,” said Pierre Liautaud, executive vice president for Kone South Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Reem Island is a planned residential and commercial community commonly referred to as “the new Abu Dhabi”.

The island, adjacent to Abu Dhabi’s dense Central Business District and linked to the mainland by six bridges, is expected to be home to 200,000 people once the development is complete.
